IRUN Bournemouth supports local school

In September 2007, Avonbourne School launched their Young Chamber which gives young people the opportunity to take control of their own education. Avonbourne Young Chamber works very closely with the Dorset Business Chamber of Commerce.

One initiative set up by the ICT and Business department of Avonbourne School in association with Young Chamber was to have their Applied Business studies students meet with local businesses who came to impart valuable information about the importance of good customer service.

On Wednesday 13th February Frank Marsh, Director of IRUN Bournemouth was one of seven business owners chosen to attend this special mentoring session to provide advice on their course project work of ‘Customer Service at Sainsbury’s ...and to provide encouragement to young people aged 15 and 16 on how best to complete their GCSE coursework...

Victoria Helliwell, Head of Business and IT says “Avonbourne School were pleased to welcome Frank Marsh to our school. His knowledge and experience gave my pupils a tremendous insight into the world of business and to the value that good customer service brings to a business and to us, the consumer shopper”.

Not one to give up on a challenge Frank Marsh was back at Avonbourne School the following day to present to an audience of 130 pupils aged 15 years, the importance of the Internet, what makes a good web site, how they work and key components and why all businesses should have one.

Victoria Helliwell concludes that during nearly two hours of interactive discussions and questions, ‘The pupils and staff were extremely grateful for Frank’s helpful insights into why the Internet is called the world’s biggest social activity and why it plays such an important role within the business community. The pupils can now use the knowledge gained to improve their own websites which will showcase their GCSE coursework.’
